Here is a brief background information of myself. I graduated from the Foreign Language Department of Cheng Kung University in 1962. After military service, I came to the United States in 1963 and changed my major to television engineering.

I got my master's degree in Radio and Television from St. Louis University in 1966. Then, I transferred to University of Missouri-Columbia to pursue a PhD degree. However, without finishing my PhD degree I was offered a permanent position at the local TV station. There I met my wife, Margaret, who at the time was taking some television classes.

I have been working in television industry for more than 40 years and really enjoying the work. I have worked with six television stations in different capacities around the country. In 1983 we moved to Houston and I have been working at KPRC-TV, Channel 2 in the area of maintenance engineering. I'm 69 years old, but I'm still enjoying my work.

In the last 20+ years I also had many opportunities to work with all the big networks (NBC, ABC, CBS, ESPN, etc.) to do all kinds of nationally televised sport events, such as World Series, Super Bowl, NBA Finals, etc. Last year NBC Network invited me to work at the swimming and diving events at the Beijing Olympics for about a month. My job was to set up all the cameras for the events as well as to adjust all the cameras and make sure all pictures came through the cameras were looking great. Apparently the Television Academy of the USA thinks that our team at the swimming and diving events did an outstanding job and voted us "The Best Technical Team Remote in 2008".

Margaret and I have two children and three grand children who live in Austin , Texas .

華人的光彩 成大的驕傲

國立成功大學外國文學系畢業校友童全民（1962年畢業），甫獲今年度美國專門頒給在電視藝術及科學方面傑出成就的業內最高榮譽「艾美獎」(The Emmy Award)。表彰他在電視藝術及科學傑出成就及北京奧運期間擔任現場轉播的優異表現。成大師生對童全民校友獲得「艾美獎」，皆同感榮耀。

任職休士頓Channel 2電視台的童全民，因出色的專業表現在京奧期間外借替美國在京奧取得獨家轉播權的NBC效力，進行現場轉播工作，將京奧最精采的競賽畫面呈現在觀眾面前。由於他專業與傑出的轉播技術榮獲艾美獎的肯定，並獲頒獎座及獎牌一只。

據了解，艾美獎（Emmy Awards）是美國電視界的最高獎項，和電影界的奧斯卡獎一樣包含普通獎項和技術獎項。在所頒給童全民的獎座上寫著：「2008年第29屆奧運會，NBC傑出技術控制團隊得獎人 (The Best Technical Team Remote in 2008)：童全民(David Tung)」，短短幾個字，卻是對於投身電視工作超過40個年頭的童全民最大的肯定。

童全民於1962年畢業於成功大學外文系，1963年至美國發展，轉攻廣播電視，並於1966年取得聖路易斯大學廣播電視碩士學位，並在美國密蘇里大學擔任該校電視傳播系的助教，同時與政大新聞系畢業的夫人江瑤華 (Margaret Tung) 相遇並結為連理，育有兩位子女，同時以升格當祖父母，一家目前居住於美國德州。

1983年全家遷往德州休士頓，開始在休士頓KPRC-TV Channel 2擔任工程技術維修一職，工作主要是負責運動競賽現場轉播工作，必須控管現場活動所有的攝影設備，並掌控每個角度所拍出來的畫面正確無誤、美觀寫實。由於他現場反應迅速，技術精準，許多全國電視台的運動節目，都借調他去控制大局。

童全民在美國電視業超過40年的資歷，曾在多家電視台擔任職務，近20年來於美國網路媒體負責大型運動競賽之媒體轉播工作，例如：美國職業籃球賽 (NBA)、美國橄欖球超級杯大賽 (Super Bowl)、世界錦標賽 (World Series)等。

在2008年北京奧運中，童全民與助手替美國取得獨家轉播權的NBC做現場轉播工作4週共28天，天天要同時面對至少八個轉播螢幕，絲毫不敢有所懈怠，每天凌晨4點左右就要到比賽場地，與NBC及負責國際多國媒體轉播工程人員一起，將設備及線路各項相關準備工作設定好，多數休息時已經是深夜11點，童全民說自己，一天頂多睡3到4小時，還因為北京奧運村的面積太大，工作期間每天不停走路，一雙球鞋都穿破了，忙碌到和夫人江瑤華在北京的弟弟只能以電話聯繫。夫人江瑤華表示，自從先生轉任負責運動節目後，多年來都是為了現場運動轉播節目而忙碌，自己只能帶著孩子、孫子在電視邊觀看，包含2008年北京奧運也是。她的一番話，訴說了童全民對於工作的熱情與執著。

頂著華人的身份，童全民四十逾年來在工作岡位的辛勤與努力，終能在國際媒體發光發熱，誠屬難能可貴。這不僅是華人的光彩，也是成大的驕傲。
